SPOTTED! How To Bring Back The Old Facebook Chat Box

There had been reports and even wall posts on Facebook’s fan page that most of the Facebook users didn’t like the latest changes made by the mentioned social-networking site, Facebook on their chat features.  I guess most of us felt that the new chat feature is quite annoying seeing the sidebar on our browser.  Most especially this is kinda annoying for those who don’t to initiate nor engage on chatting at all.  For some, they feel a little bit nostalgic and missing the old Facebook chat box not only it’s less annoying but the truth is most of the users are already used to it and how to navigate it.  Worry no more, I spotted a browser plugin that will bring back our old Facebook chat box.

Now, this trick will only work on Google Chrome and RockMelt because the trick requires a javascript file which we call “extension” or “plugin” file.  I actually tried it and works like a charm.  For Firefox users, it was said that in order for this to work you will need to install the Firefox plugin GreaseMonkey.  I have been using GreaseMonkey for my other JS scripts but haven’t tried it with this one.  Anyway, before I proceed I want you to understand that although I have tried this extension tool on my computer I can’t guarantee in anyway that it will also work or harm your computer – let this serve as my disclaimer. Well, you can always uninstall it anyway or disable it – it’s only a Javascript anyway.

Steps To Bring Back Your Old Chat Bar Back

1. Open your Google Chrome or RockMelt browser
2. Go to Facebook login page – you may proceed to login
3. Download the plugin by clicking this – Facebook Sidebar Chat Reversion
4. Install the extension file
5. Refresh your browser (You can try one of the following, hit Reload or press F5 or the hard refresh CTRL+F5)

TADAH! Your chat bar will now look like the image below.

It may not function like the original chat bar before (of course this is just an extension or plugin for your browser and not actually the code from Facebook). At least, the whole sidebar will not be filled anymore with the so-called annoying chat bar. The extension is collapsible and scrollable, and it shows all of your online friends and view the profile of your friends easily.

Now, if you want to disable or delete this plugin from your computer or browser, just follow the steps below:

For Google Chrome:

1. Click the wrench icon from the top-right of your browser – Tools – Extensions
2. Disable/Unsinstall Facebook Sidebar Chat Reversion
3. Refresh your browser

For RockMelt:

1. Click on RockMelt (topmost-right of your browser) – Tools – Extensions
2. Disable/Unsinstall Facebook Sidebar Chat Reversion
3. Refresh your browser
