Nowadays a lot many people are of the opinion that the only smartphone worth having is an iPhone. If you are upgrading, then there is no doubt that you should upgrade to an iPhone. It is known as the best gadget that gives you everything, from a pocket computer, apps, to many other things.
But then comes the question of insurance. Should you get insurance for your iPhone? This depends upon the type of iPhone that you have and the iPhone insurance coverage you are looking for. If you have a 16GB 4S iPhone then, considering the cost of the phone, insurance is necessary.
Next is the type of coverage. Do you want it to cover cracked screens, which are very rare, loss, theft or any unfortunate incident? In such a case, insurance seems wise. Various companies including Apple and the carriers offer insurance. Go through the terms that each offers and then choose the best coverage for your iPhone.
Apple Care +
Apple offers it customers an insurance program with extended warranty. Apple Care + is very popular with its consumers that does not ask you to pay monthly. This insurance cover has to be paid as an upfront cost just once and you are done.
It covers technical support for 90 days and repair coverage if you iPhones does not work properly or malfunctions. Although the initial support is only for 90 days, you can get it extended to 2 years. The period is calculated from the date you purchase the device.
But, there are a few limitations that you must be aware of. These include support for only 2 kinds of accidental damage and each of them carry a small fee. Also, Apple Care+ does not give coverage against theft or loss. It covers only the complete equipment returned to Apple.
Your carrier also offers insurance. Companies like Verizon and AT&T have a contract with Asurion and provide insurance coverage to iPhone users.
At present, AT&T is the main service provider and it offers a comprehensive coverage that includes a lot but like Apple Care + does not include loss or theft. The carrier company also offers an insurance plan called Total Equipment Coverage. The premium for this plan depends on the model of iPhone.
Apart from these, some independent insurers offer many coverage plans. Some of them have low rates and the deductibles are also cheaper. But you have to review them carefully and go through the fine print with a fine toothcomb to ensure that you do not lose out.
Some home and renters insurance also include iPhone coverage. But the terms vary from one policy to another, so you will have to call your agent and ask him about it. Check the coverage offered. iPads and iPhones are usually covered under home and renters’ insurance policy as they are personal property.
