Another phenomenally successful series is Call of Duty. November 13th saw the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the sequel to 2010′s original. The new game delivers more frantic, exciting shooting action with a huge array of weapons. Vehicles make up a big part of the game-play, which adds some variety to the set pieces. The hugely popular online multi-player options add more hours of game-play to the basic story mode, and the fans’ favourite zombie survival made makes a welcome appearance.

Assassin’s Creed III relocates the action of the previous games from Renaissance era Italy to North America at the time of the American Revolutionary War. The storyline continues with the main character, Desmond, and the game-play feels familiar with an emphasis on stealth and discretion. However, as with the other Assassin’s Creed games there is also a huge amount of action, including several violent assassinations. This is the biggest ever Assassin’s Creed game, and the frontier setting looks amazing. The mission system has also been improved, and there is even a chance to control a ship during naval battles.

Another big new title in which stealth and the violent dispatching of enemies is key is Hitman: Absolution, by publisher Square Enix. The fifth game in the Hitman series has earned rave reviews, and rightly so. Once again the protagonist is Agent 47, and once again there is an intriguing storyline to follow and a variety of innovative ways to assassinate enemies without detection. Hitman: Absolution is the first game in the series to feature an online multi-player mode, allowing gamers to compete against each other to complete hits in the quickest possible time.

The quality and variety of the titles on offer this Christmas is enough to keep any gamer entertained for hours on end. Each game is challenging in its own way, and each offers fun game-play combined with excellent graphics. They are sure to make fans eager for the next release in each series.
