A couple of hours ago, it was reported that Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) and Nelly Furtado’s (@NellyFurtado) twitter accounts was hacked and twitted a message saying that she’s giving away FREE iPad 2’s to each of her followers in the spirit of the holidays – what’s the catch? Along with that tweet was going to a shortened or hashed link (bit.ly/s5MTqM) where her followers should click to claim that iPad 2. Of course what do you expect will be the reaction of her fans and followers but to click that linked Lady Gaga posted – where on earth will you get a FREE iPad 2 anyway? And by the way, for your information Lady Gaga’s twitter account have around 17 million followers – I don’t know how the website’s server can handle that if they accessed it all at the same time. 🙂
This is the same scenario with Nelly Furtado’s twitter where the claimed hacker posted on her twitter that she’s giving out Free Macbooks for the same reason as with Lady Gaga. By the way, before Lady Gaga’s post that she’ll be giving out iPad 2s the previous post says that she’ll be giving out FREE Macbooks as well then it was deleted and was changed to iPad 2.
Then when I checked again, Lady Gaga now tweets that the hacking is now over and she is now on her way to Japan. Some critics says that this is just another Lady Gaga’s stunt to promote her tours by affiliating with online redemption deals. Well who really knows whether this is really true or not. But my take on this is we SHOULD never let our social networking account be hacked in any way as this can be used against us someday. We should always protect our accounts by not leaving our unattended or not logging off even from our own personal computers or even from our mobile phones. I believed that Bit.Ly already blocked the link and posted a warning page for those who will attempt to visit the website.
