Changing Paradigms Bring Shifts to the Workplace

Engineering and technology has always been a pretty clear focus of the business world, but those with business degrees are now seeing more of a paradigm shift than the implementation of new tools in the workplace. Recent business graduates are being recruited to sell old solutions to new problems, and they’re seeing new profit potential because of it. As the workplace changes, so has the ways that people actually work with tools.

Telecommuting is nothing new. In fact, people have been able to conduct business over the phone for a long time. Only now, though, are even top business experts actually emphasizing distance conferencing as a way to save money. Whether they use a simple phone call or an online video stream is totally irrelevant.


What’s important is that the workplace is changing, and in many cases even disappearing. Teams working on a corporate solution no longer have to take expensive flights around the world to meet with representatives. By now this is news to no one, but many businesses insist on working with the old paradigms without question.

That’s why recent graduates are gravitating toward businesses that aren’t glued down to old paradigms. As a result one of two things is happening to those who continue to avoid asking questions about what’s happening in their workplace. Some of these companies are starting to see spiraling expanses, which naturally aren’t sustainable.

Others have realized where they’re going wrong, and hiring new consultants and business experts. While this kind of advice might not seem like much to the general public, corporate cultures can experience a great deal of groupthink. Many prefer to not buck the system they’ve been working with, and sometimes could use a breath of fresh air.

A few have now looked for managers who believe that a looser workplace is conducive to putting together teams that look for solutions. What’s happening now is that even college programs like UAB Online are expanding to offer training in a variety of new paradigms. This is different from technology training.

They’re not teaching people to work with things so much as teaching them new ways to work with them. Businesses then want these graduates, since they can offer their experience in the workplace. That’s helping to change the way that business is carried out, and it’s also helping to cut down on some of the large expenses that people have started to balk at.
